Cottage Roses & Roses at Cust is a North Canterbury-based rose nursery with a warm, down-to-earth approach. Run from Alannah’s cottage garden in West Eyreton, the nursery brings over 30 years of experience to gardeners across Canterbury and New Zealand. Customers often appreciate getting to see roses growing in a real home setting (weeds and all), which adds to practical advice on care and planting. The team enjoys helping everyone from beginners to experienced rose growers find just the right plants or garden ideas.
A wide selection of roses are available, from old garden favourites to modern varieties like floribunda and hybrid tea. If a special rose isn’t in stock, the nursery will do their best to source it. Along with plants, visitors can pick up fertilisers, sprays, gloves, secateurs (pruning tools), and everything needed for healthy roses. Cottage Roses & Roses at Cust also offers contacts for garden design support and runs hands-on pruning demonstrations.

A History Worth Saving The story of Cottage Roses & Roses at Cust is deeply rooted in tradition and care.
Over more than 30 years Roses at Cust has been the go to place for roses undergoing many changes from The Little Rose Nursery through to the more recent Querky Style and Roses at Cust era. As its last form came to an end in March 2025 staff member and avid rose enthusiast Alannah picked up the baton to continue on the tradition. Moving the rose nursery just down the road to her home in West Eyreton where is has become Cottage Roses & Roses at Cust.
Many of the roses in our nursery connect to the heritage of old English and antique varieties—plants that have stood the test of time in both beauty and resilience. We believe that preserving these living treasures matters, not just for their allure, but for the rich history and memories they represent. By passing on classic rose knowledge and keeping the more rare varieties available, we hope to inspire gardeners to value and protect these remarkable blooms for future generations.
